Hi Graham,

I tried Rescue Time for a few days actually. I really found it more distracting than helpful as I would then spend all this time analysing my time (yes, it's fun, but not really productive!).

It sounds as though you might find Rescue Time interesting. It keeps track of which apps you use and which sites you visit and gives you reports on how much of your time you've spent productively. The reporting is really detailed, and it can be quite interesting to see what you've actually been up to...

Thanks for the reminder,

I normally go through and unsubscribe to all the newsletters I no longer read etc. I also adjusted notifications for TweetDeck to only notify me on mentions/DMs; which should drastically increase my productivity. As for aim i only keep people I talk to on a regular basis. Thanks for the great post!

Growl is so useful that I can't turn it off, but on the other hand I only have it set up to tell me about things I actually need to action.

Most apps I use have good growl integration, you can go into Preferences->Growl->Applications->[application]->Notifications and disable the popup for messages you don't want to see. For example Adium has about 25 different events that can trigger popups, but there's only a couple that I find useful and want to know about
